The burn out operation conducted on the south end of the Greenway fire yesterday afternoon was a success and there was no further activity overnight. We greatly appreciate the patience of residents that had to deal with smoke and road closures. Fire Officials determined the benefits of the operation to far outweigh any risk or inconvenience. The Florida Forest Service will remain in the area patrolling and strengthening fire lines for the next several days until the fire is 100% contained. We anticipate that by tomorrow, GNFD will be back to normal operations, supporting Forestry as needed. I would like to thank the firefighters from the Florida Forest Service, Greater Naples Fire Rescue, and all our partnering agencies who have worked a lot of long, hard hours to keep our community safe.
Please keep in mind that the fire danger index is still elevated across Southwest Florida and residents should continue to remain vigilant, making sure your property is Firewise, and have a plan should a change in fire conditions result in necessary evacuations.
